Why do I still see fleas after professional treatment?

Because the pupae are protected. UC IPM says treating carpets and upholstery with an insecticide containing an IGR kills larvae but not pupae, so fleas may continue to emerge for up to 2 weeks. Its instruction for that window is to vacuum regularly to remove adult fleas that emerge from pupae for the next 2 weeks and do not reapply pesticides. Vacuuming helps rather than hurts, because warm temperatures and mechanical pressure caused by walking on or vacuuming carpet stimulate emergence from the cocoon.
