An Escondido restaurant is a San Diego County retail food facility. The Food and Housing Division of DEHQ inspects those facilities. Pest Pros San Diego is not the inspector and is not the pest-control operator. We match you with a licensed company. The service log stays between you and them.

What DEHQ actually publishes about food-facility inspections

The San Diego County DEHQ food program states:

  • There are 18 cities with more than 13,800 permanent retail food facilities in San Diego County, including over 8,100 restaurants.
  • Any person operating a retail food facility must apply for and obtain a valid public health permit.
  • Environmental Health Specialists conduct more than 32,000 inspections at these food facilities each year.
  • FHD conducts risk-based inspections. In that model, issues such as handwashing, food temperatures, and dishwashing are more important than a missing light bulb or a broken tile.
  • Specialists use a statewide standard Food Inspection Report that lists possible violations, including Major Violations, Minor Violations, and Good Retail Practices.
  • After an inspection, points are added up and subtracted from 100. That number is the inspection score. An “A” grade means the facility earned a score of 90 to 100 percent and is in satisfactory compliance with state law. A “B” is 80 to 89 percent. A “C” is 79 percent or less.
  • During an inspection, an Official Notice of Violation (NOV) lists violations and a specified time to correct each one. Major violations can close a facility until they are corrected or a suitable alternative is in place.
  • Inspection results are posted at eatsafesandiego.org.

The captured DEHQ food page does not publish a pest-species checklist, a monthly service interval, or a requirement that Pest Pros keep the kitchen log. Do not treat this blog as the California Retail Food Code.

Documentation questions to ask before you hire

Lead with paperwork, not product names. Ask the company you might match with:

  1. Will every visit produce a written ticket that stays on site, in order, for the operator to show a specialist?
  2. How are staff sightings logged, and who signs that log?
  3. Which SPCB branch covers the proposed kitchen work? (Branch 2 is household pests excluding fumigation. Branch 3 is wood-destroying organisms by insecticides or structural repairs, excluding fumigation. Branch 1 is fumigation.)
  4. Can service be scheduled after close so labeled products stay off exposed food?
  5. What areas are in scope: kitchen line, dry storage, dumpster pad, drains, ceiling voids?
  6. If a specialist issues an NOV that mentions pests, who writes the correction response: the operator, or the pest company under the operator’s direction?

Pest Pros San Diego does not keep that file. We match Escondido operators with a licensed food-facility pest company. See commercial pest control.

Common kitchen pests, without a treatment script

German cockroaches live and breed indoors in food-preparation areas (UC IPM). Rodents enter through small openings and contaminate food. Flies move from waste to food. Those biology notes explain why a kitchen is a high-risk room. They are not a prescription for insect growth regulators, exterior bait stations, or a monthly default.

If a company proposes baits, monitors, or exclusion, those choices belong on its written scope after it walks the site. This page does not pick actives.

What this matching service is not

It is not a promise that the restaurant will be pest-free. It is not a partner that treats. It is not a substitute for the public health permit or for the specialist’s Food Inspection Report. County results live at eatsafesandiego.org.

Frequently asked questions

How often should an Escondido restaurant have pest control service?

DEHQ’s captured food page does not set a monthly pest-control interval. Frequency is the operator’s contract with a licensed company, driven by what the inspection finds and what the Food Inspection Report already recorded. There is no Pest Pros baseline.

What documentation do I need for a health inspection?

Keep the public health permit current. Keep every pest-company ticket on site if you have a contractor. Know where to find prior scores on eatsafesandiego.org. An NOV lists correction times. Ask the matched company which of those records it will generate. Pest Pros does not store them.

Can service be done after closing?

Ask the company you are matched with to schedule around close if labeled products will be used near food. That is an access question, not a Pest Pros rule.

What are the biggest pest risks for an Escondido restaurant?

German cockroaches in equipment voids, flies around waste and drains, and rodents at the bin area are the usual biology. Inland heat and shared walls can raise pressure. That is not a measured Escondido ranking.
